Romatex has partnered with the Austrian-based technology group, Andritz, for the supply of manufacturing equipment used in high-quality stitchbond in South Africa. Andritz is a key supplier for our batt forming line, which is a vital component of our stitchbond materials and home textiles.
Andritz has delivered specialised batt-forming equipment that will meet the unique technical characteristics that we require for the production of our sustainable textiles. This new and improved line of stitchbond will allow us to meet shifting customer requirements and make high-quality textiles more readily available in South Africa.
Romatex is a leading manufacturer of stitchbond material and other textiles in South Africa. Stitchbond is made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) – the polymer used to manufacture beverage bottles. Every year, we produce around 24 million square metres of this fabric, which is enough to keep 54 million plastic bottles out of landfills and the environment.
The Romatex and Andritz partnership
We have had a solid partnership with Andritz for a while now; this agreement is the third product line supplied to us by Andritz in the last four years. “We bought our first line from Andritz in 2017, then another one in 2019,” and a third line was commissioned in April 2023, explains Romatex general manager of operations, Helmut Hock.
“We have been very satisfied with the close collaboration between our companies, the flexibility and reliability of the machines, as well as the excellent service from Andritz over all these years,” continues Hock.
“The experience has been uncomplicated. This has given us the confidence to consider Andritz for a further investment,” he concludes. Romatex will use the new equipment to improve its Maliwatt stitchbond production line and overall quality.
What is Maliwatt stitchbond?
There are many applications for Maliwatt stitchbond, from upholstery and cleaning cloths to liners and geotextiles. This textile consists of a cross-laid web of polymer fibres that are stitched together. The result is a durable and strong fabric that possesses many beneficial qualities.
This means that Romatex has partnered with a leading technology and equipment supplier, which allows us to offer world-class textiles to our customers. These include linen and bedding, as well as a range of stitchbond products for retailers, hospitality ventures and secondary textile businesses.
